Shropshire markets and events: buy food, drink and crafts from the people who made them

Shropshire’s markets give Shropshire’s market towns their identities. Evolving over hundreds of years, their wares changing to the current trends and fancies, each town that has a market celebrates Shropshireness. You can spend a week travelling through Shropshire looking for each market day and you will be well rewarded when you arrive at each. There really is little better than sourcing Shropshire produce, meats, cheeses, wines, beers, ciders, juice, crafts and gifts directly from the people who grew, reared, brewed or made them. Visit Shropshire’s many farmers’ and artisans’ markets and you can hear the stories of the products’ origins and often try before you buy. The markets are continuing to evolve and now you can stay a while and sit amongst the stalls selling everything from bric-a-brac to bagels while you enjoy a delicious snack. Watch for evening openings too when the markets become food courts, often with a little entertainment added in. Don’t miss the local food festivals either. They are often the busiest market days in Shropshire’s calendar.

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
