The Black Bear in Whitchurch is holding a Coronation Garden Party on Monday 8th May at the top of the town’s thriving high street. Acoustic live music will play throughout the day – by JB, who returns again, after last summer to the courtyard. There will be Pimms pitchers, summer garden cocktails, classic British dishes and much, much more.
Make sure you pop over to Lynne’s sunflower stall with a raffle for Lymphoma Action.
The Black Bear garden is the result of the combined skills of our gardener, Michael Kemp, a talented horticulturist and our own housekeeper, Lynne Gilmore, a retired mental health nurse. The fragrant, nature friendly garden is attractive to butterflies and bees, containing over 100 plant species and this charming sanctuary has become a regular stopping place for new and regular visitors to Whitchurch.
Lynne is in remission from non-Hodgkin lymphoma and has happily adopted the daily maintenance of the new garden as part of her daily round, sowing seeds, cultivating plants, weeding and hoeing. Rolling Stones fan, Lynne is affectionately known as “Lady Jag”, taking on her gardening role with loving care. When she receives the call, Lady Jag rocks into action to supply fresh herbs from the garden to flavour foods cooked by chefs in the kitchen as well as for cocktails on the bar.
