Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Shropshire countryside, Mynd House Bed & Breakfast offers not just a place to rest, but a charming retreat offering a perfect blend of comfort and tranquillity. Located in the quaint village of Little Stretton, Shropshire, our charming B&B serves as an ideal starting point for explorations into the stunning surroundings.
There are many enjoyable walks around the Long Mynd and the Shropshire Hills, here is the second walk of our monthly series.
Walk 2 – THE LONGMYND – via Callow Hill, Minton Hill and Minton.
From the B&B, turn right. At the Ragleth Inn, right again. At the T-Junction, right, to the foot bridge at the entrance to Ashes Hollow. Cross the foot bridge and continue straight up the lane. Go up the track indicated on the marker post to “Pole Cottage”. Ignore the path which leads over the campsite.
Past the cottage take the left fork across then alongside the stony stream, and through the gate onto the open hill at the foot of a very steep incline. Taken slowly this is no problem, and looking back there are some superb views.
With the valley (Small Batch) on the right, keep straight on. After half a mile or so, the path bears left over a col, and another valley (Grindle Hollow leading down into Callow Hollow) is now on your left.
Follow the track round to the col known as Barrister’s Plain. Ashes Hollow will be seen down below on the right, and soon Pole Cottage, with its distinctive large clump of trees, straight ahead.
As you walk on, this view will gradually sink below the horizon, then reappear in a quite interesting way. In due course, the Port Way (an ancient track, although here it is a good motor road), will be reached.
Turn left and walk along the grass verge towards the Gliding Club which will be seen in the distance. After about 1200 yards, a post marked “Minton” will be reached on the left.
Take this track, which goes over Minton Hill and Packetstone Hill – a gorgeous walk, through heather, with lots of lovely views, to Minton village. From the green take the lane left to Little Stretton.
Walking distance 6.5 miles. Total ascent 1000 feet.
