Embark on a  journey into the realms of creativity and transformation as Shrewsbury Prison proudly introduces Art Behind Bars this May half term.

Step beyond the confines of traditional boundaries and immerse yourself in a realm where creativity knows no limits. With complimentary access to Art Behind Bars upon entry to Shrewsbury Prison with a valid ticket or Annual Pass, prepare to unlock your imagination in an environment unlike any other.

Join the excitement with four engaging art activities, including ‘Prison Pictures,’ ‘Matchstick Mayhem,’ ‘Fingerprinting Frescoes’ and ‘Cuddly Creations.’ Let your creativity soar as you breathe life into fingerprints, fashioning them into vibrant masterpieces, and embark on the journey of crafting your very own furry companion. With activities tailored to delight every member of the family, experience prison life like never before.

However, Art Behind Bars is more than just an exhibition; arts programs in UK prisons play a vital role in rehabilitation, offering support for individuals seeking to distance themselves from criminal behaviour. These programs foster personal growth, empathy, and stronger family connections among inmates, contributing to their successful reintegration into society. Additionally, by providing a positive outlet for self-expression, these programs create safer environments within prisons, benefiting both inmates and staff whilst helping to break the cycle of crime.

Yet, the ripple effect of this initiative extends far beyond the confines of the prison. Extensive studies have demonstrated the remarkable efficacy of arts programs in reducing reoffending rates, leading to substantial savings for the criminal justice system. For instance, between 2007-2010, young offenders participating in arts programs witnessed an impressive 18% decrease in reoffending rates, resulting in savings exceeding £1 million. By joining in with Art Behind Bars, you’re not merely supporting individual rehabilitation; you’re contributing to the creation of safer, more resilient communities for all.

Join Shrewsbury Prison for an action-packed creative half term behind bars with activities to keep the whole family busy.

Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
