Shrewsbury Prison is a powerful and immersive dark tourism attraction, offering visitors the chance to walk in the footsteps of social history. Here, you can explore what life was like for both the incarcerated and those who guarded them through the ages.

Originally built in 1793 and decommissioned in 2013, this Victorian jail is steeped in over 200 years of history. Remarkably, it houses the country’s last remaining Georgian prison.

The mission of Shrewsbury Prison is to preserve, protect and promote its rich history and heritage, shining a light on prison life from the Georgian era to present day. Visitors can expect a unique and immersive experience without gimmicks – the jail is very much as it was when the last prisoners left in 2013.

Recognised by BBC Radio 4 as the 6th best Dark Tourism site in the world – alongside global landmarks such as Auschwitz, Ground Zero, and Chernobyl – Shrewsbury Prison is the only UK location to make the list.

Today, this historic site offers a variety of unforgettable experiences. Here’s a few of the exciting things you can experience behind its towering walls:

· Guided Tour

· Ghost Tour

· Escape Rooms

· Prison Break – the world’s largest escape game

· Night Behind Bars
