Explore Haughmond Hill – Forestry England
Where you can find us
Haughmond Hill, located just to the east of Shrewsbury, is the perfect place to escape outdoors. The beautiful forest is located on top of the hill and offers fantastic views across the River Severn and Shrewsbury, to the South Shropshire and Welsh hills beyond.
There are four waymarked walking trails of varying lengths to suit all abilities. The easy access trail is suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and buggies, or if you fancy a challenge there are longer trails which take you further into the forest.
If you enjoy local history, Haughmond Hill has plenty to offer. The main viewpoint is a site of an Iron Age enclosure and during the Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403 Henry IV’s armies amassed on and around the hill having marched from Worcester.
The quarry viewing platform is an excellent chance to see the neighbouring quarry working, especially if you know anyone who likes dumper trucks!
There is a family activity trail for little ones to enjoy, each year the theme changes. For 2024 we are celebrating The Gruffalo’s 25th birthday with the ultimate party trail. Help us find the missing party items, and choose the perfect present for The Gruffalo.
No visit is complete without a visit to Haughmond Hill Cafe, a family-run cafe serving delicious food and drink.
Visiting Haughmond Hill is free, charges apply in the car park. Regular visitors could save money with a Forestry England membership.
